The cable uses the same output and noise-dissipation technologies as the NRG STORM series of AC cables, but at significantly lower prices.

Ideal for video displays, amplified loudspeakers, and all other electronic devices, NRG-Y3 (3-pin) cables utilise 7 directionally controlled long grain copper (LGC) conductors in a semi-solid concentric arrangement in which the individual copper strands have a tighter twist and maintain the same position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces the interaction distortion between the strands. The higher purity and more uniform grain structure of long-grain copper further reduce distortion. In addition, the NRG-Y3's silver-plated shielding conductors efficiently control RF noise to ground.

THE CHALLENGE: No matter how perfect an AC power source is, distortion is added within any AC cable. Even the most sophisticated filters and power supplies cannot eliminate this transient intermodulation distortion (TIM) because the induced RF noise modulates the low-level audio/video signal.

THE SOLUTION: NRG-Y3 cables utilise directionally controlled longitudinal long grain (LGC) wires in a semi-solid concentric conductor arrangement in which the strands are packed more tightly and never change position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces the interaction distortion between the strands. The higher purity and less complex grain structure within the LGC copper further reduce distortion.

Long-grain semi-solid copper concentric conductors (LGC): In a conventional multi-strand cable, distortion caused by the interaction of electrical and magnetic wires is aggravated as each wire changes position within the bundle. In a semi-solid AQ concentric cable, the wires within the bundle maintain their fixed relationships, significantly reducing distortion. Long-grain copper (LGC) provides a more uniform and clearer sound than cables using normal OFHC (high conductivity oxygen-free) copper. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries and significantly better performance.

Silver-plated drain wires: Silver-plated, directionally controlled shielded conductors effectively drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground via the third 'ground' pin. The net result is powerful, dynamic and immersive.

Zero Characteristic Impedance: While many AC power cables have low DC resistance to meet high current demands, the characteristic impedance of a cable is also crucial for optimal performance. Unlike most AC cables that compress an audio-induced transient, AudioQuest AC cables combine low DC resistance and zero (non) characteristic impedance to provide uncompressed transients on demand.
