Hi-Fi USB DAC Converter. Plays any audio format. 96kHz/24-bit, high output (2.1V). Compatible with Android and Apple
Hard to believe. It has been almost four years since the original 'Dragonfly' (DragonFly v1.0) changed the world's concept of what a DAC could and should be. Thanks in part to its quality components, the DragonFly has been hailed around the world as the perfect introduction to the pleasures of high-performance audio.
A year and a half later, DragonFly once again shook the audio world with the introduction of version v1.2. The sound was simply a little cleaner, better controlled and more relaxed. Undoubtedly a better product. And an even more affordable price helped bring this better sound to even more people.
The AudioQuest DragonFly Red USB DAC - Headphone Amplifier - is an extremely compact, fully USB-powered headphone amplifier and DAC that enhances the quality of your computer-based music listening. The New DragonFly RED also accepts a digital signal from an Apple or Android device (using the Apple Camera Connection Kit or Android adapter AudioQuest Dragontail), making it a perfect portable solution for the mobile audiophile. The Dragonfly plays all file types and handles high resolution up to 24-bit/96 kHz. The Dragon fly Red works especially well for driving headphones with better roominess and clearer acoustic textures while presenting a deeper image and wider soundstage. The Dragonfly Red has a high output power of 2.1 volts to be able to drive some of the most demanding headphones.
Now, AudioQuest is truly delighted to present two major steps forward with the new Dragonfly with unprecedented audio quality. Not only that, these new devices work with Apple and Android phones!
Finally, thanks to the new parts available, the power consumption is now well within what any phone will allow.
AudioQuest worked alongside Microchip Technology to develop a new high-performance, full-speed USB microcontroller (input processor of a DAC) that delivers improved signal-to-noise ratio and significantly lower power consumption. Using 77% less power than the DragonFly v1.2 microcontroller, the new Microchip MX microcontroller enables true compatibility with Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. For use with Apple iOS devices, an Apple lightning-to-USB adapter is required; for use with Android devices, a Made for Android (OTG) adapter, such as Audioquest's own Dragontail.
While the DAC chips in both DragonFly Black and Red have great capability, we chose to limit both to 24-bit / 96kHz. This makes using DragonFly as simple as it has always been, fully compatible with PCs etc., without having to download and install new drivers. Dragonfly are designed to be the best possible vehicle for the excitement of your music, whether from Spotify, YouTube videos, Tidal, ripped CDs or state-of-the-art Hi-Res files.
