‘Incesticide’, a collection of singles, new versions of old songs, covers, unreleased tracks and b-sides, in which Cobain and Novoselic represented the only constant, compared to a large number of names included in the project divided between drummers, producers and labels. For many insiders who witnessed the birth, growth and explosion of the Nirvana phenomenon in those years, all the success achieved with Nevermind seemed at times inappropriate, or rather, contextualised only in the grunge and mainstream movement, considering instead the typically punk extraction of the artistic background of all the musicians who were permanent members of the combo, but also of those who had contributed to its consolidation in various ways. A premise that was probably also shared by Kurt himself and the rest of his entourage, considering that Incesticide burst onto the scene as a message of vindication of those roots, manifested above all in one track, (New Wave) Polly, the only reprise extracted from Nevermind and here re-proposed in a rough, electrified version played at three times the speed: in a single word, punk.
