UP-OCC Copper Headphone Cable by the metre with 4 Litz conductors and transparent PVC outer insulation
Sold by the metre in a single piece of the purchased quantity
The Neotech NECE-3001 MKII is an earphone and IEM cable with 4 multi-strand UP-OCC copper Litz conductors. Each conductor is insulated with a transparent PVC jacket, each strand is insulated with PE. Litz wire is a conductor with each strand electrically insulated by a polyurethane jacket. This reduces the impact of the skin effect, i.e. a current flowing only on the surface of the conductor at high frequencies, as well as the proximity effect that increases resistivity. This design is particularly suitable for audio use as it improves conductivity and limits the cable's resistivity, resulting in excellent audio reproduction.
What is UP-OCC?
The UP OCC process for copper refining was developed and patented by Professor Ohno of Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan. This manufacturing process is incredibly popular for the production of wires and cables for the audio/video industry.
UP OCC stands for Ultra-Pure, Ohno Continuous Casting. In conventional processing, hot molten copper is poured into a cooled die for extrusion, resulting in a multiple, fractional crystal structure. Oxygen-free copper (OFC) has undesirable effects that lead many to use more expensive materials such as silver. The OCC process uses a heated mould for casting and extrusion, with cooling in a separate process. The result is a larger crystal size and higher purity, around 6N, 99.9998%! Looked at another way, traditional copper has oxygen impurities of 200 to 500 parts per million (PPM), whereas in traditional OFC copper this is reduced to less than 10 ppm. With the OCC process, this figure is halved to less than 5 PPM of oxygen and less than 0.25 PPM of hydrogen (compared to 0.5 PPM for OFC). With these results, the OCC process creates an ‘ultra-pure’ copper
