Closely related to our innovative Mythical Creature series, the Folk Hero series, consisting of two models: Robin Hood and William Tell, is available with Solid Perfect-Surface Copper + or Solid Perfect-Surface Silver conductors. While the mythical creatures are all-out assaults on state-of-the-art cable technology, the Folk Heroes use all the same technology with fewer conductors.
Building on a solid foundation of tried-and-true AudioQuest technologies, the design team of Garth Powell and Bill Low focused specifically on one of the most vexing problems plaguing loudspeaker cable design: the mismatch between the amplifier's source impedance and the loudspeaker's load impedance. By eliminating the characteristic impedance of the loudspeaker cable (ZERO technology), current compression and distortion of the signal/current transient are significantly reduced. The result is dynamic contrast, transient response and bass slam that are rendered seemingly effortless because the cable does not electrically obstruct the music.
Like the larger gauge cables in the Mythical Creatures series, William Tell and Robin Hood can be used in two ways: using the ZERO model for Full-Range or using the ZERO model in combination with a dedicated BASS cable, such as a fully optimised BiWire Combination cable. Like their bigger brothers, William Tell and Robin Hood also feature our patented common-mode noise rejection technology. Together with Mythical Creatures, these latest AudioQuest speaker cables significantly surpass previous technologies in radio frequency noise control and drainage.
FEATURES
ZERO no impedance characteristic for uncompressed current transfer: The integrity of any audio transient (oscillation and instantaneous peak-to-peak voltage current) delivered by a power amplifier to a loudspeaker is always compromised. Whether the amplifier is a valve or a transistor, regardless of class of operation, the source impedance of the amplifier and the load impedance of the loudspeaker are never critically matched. The characteristic impedance of the loudspeaker cable is yet another culprit in a highly compromised non-linear electrical circuit. AudioQuest has always claimed that all cables cause damage because the output is never as good as the input. However, by eliminating the characteristic impedance of a loudspeaker cable, AQ's ZERO technology represents an unprecedented step towards reducing that damage. The result is greater dynamic contrast, improved response to audio transients and a bass slam made seemingly effortless because the cable does not electrically constrain (strangle) the music.
Solid Silver Conductors with Perfect Surface (PSS) and Solid Copper Conductors with More Than Perfect Surface (PSC+): Solid conductors prevent electrical interaction between strands and wires, which are the main sources of distortion. The quality of the surface is crucial because a conductor can be considered as a guide for both the fields inside a conductor and the magnetic fields extending outside the conductor. The surprisingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface Copper + eliminates roughness and significantly increases clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other premium coins. The extremely pure Perfect-Surface Silver further minimises distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metallic conductor.
Ground Noise Dissipation (GND): This patented, highly effective noise suppression technology is distributed along the ground path in almost all AQ AC Power cables, as well as the AQ Bass and Midrange speaker cables.
Directionality: All drawn metal wires or conductors have a non-symmetrical, and therefore directional, grain structure. AudioQuest controls the resulting RF impedance variation so that noise is discharged from where it will cause distortion. The correct direction is determined by listening to each batch of metal conductors used in each AudioQuest audio cable. Arrows are clearly marked on the connectors to ensure superior audio quality. For most AQ cable models, the arrows indicate not only the direction that optimises the directionality of the metal as part of Noise-Dissipation, but also indicates the non-symmetrical connection of shields and GND to optimise the performance of the entire system.
Carbon-based Linear Noise Dissipation System (NDS): Today's environment is saturated with radio-frequency noise that is extremely difficult to filter out or reject, such as frequencies from satellites, cellular towers and Bluetooth, etc., They are so narrow that a conventional screen, or a shunt array or filter, is totally inadequate. Much of the low-level signal that carries the harmonics and spatial cues that define high-resolution audio is masked by radio-frequency induced noise. AQ's comprehensive linear noise dissipation system combines multiple screens and a carbon-based linearised resistive network that turns much of this noise into heat. By 'linearised' we mean that the system is equally effective over an extremely wide bandwidth, rather than only at selected frequencies, as is more common. The remaining bad energy is effectively discharged from the amplifier's sensitive circuits via directionally controlled signal and shielding conductors.
CARBON radio-frequency trap dielectric bias system (DBS): All insulation is also a dielectric whose electrical properties affect signal integrity. When the isolation is correct, dielectric involvement (non-linear absorption and release of energy in the signal flow) causes different amounts of time delay (phase shift) for different frequencies and energy levels, which is a significant problem for a long time. multi-octave sensitive audio. AudioQuest's multi-patented DBS creates a strong and stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarises (organises) the insulator molecules. This minimises non-linear delays, resulting in a clearer sound that emerges from a 'blacker' background. The inclusion of an RF trap (a technology developed for AudioQuest's Niagara series of PowerQuest products) in the DBS battery pack further reduces RF noise. DBS batteries last for many years. A test button and LED allow occasional checking of the battery.
William Tell BiWiring: When possible, running separate cables on the treble and bass 'halves' of a loudspeaker greatly reduces distortion. BiWiring keeps the large magnetic fields associated with the bass energy out of the treble cable, allowing the delicate upper frequencies to pass through a less magnetically disturbed path, like letting waves out of water when swimming. The 'Rocket' models of the AQ loudspeaker cable have two self-contained internal structures, facilitating bi-wiring within a single cable. The 'Type' models of the AQ loudspeaker cable can be doubled, using one for the treble and one for the bass. However, doubling AQ's ZERO technology cables may be a minor improvement due to ZERO's unlimited bandwidth - the use of two full-range ZERO cables can actually allow more RF energy into the amplifier, while the use of a BASS cable with Bass and Midrange GND in combination with a ZERO cable for Treble significantly reduces total RF noise. The patented noise floor dissipation (GND) of the BASS cable discharges RF energy from the amplifier output. Properly implemented, BiWiring has always been a way to achieve better performance for the same or less money. With GND, the improvements brought about by BiWiring are considerably more dramatic. William Tell BASS with GND is an ideal cable for the Bass and Midrange inputs of a BiWireable or TriWireable loudspeaker when used in combination with William Tell ZERO or William Tell Full-Range cables.
Cold Soldered Terminations: Folk Hero cables are cold soldered directly onto AudioQuest's extremely pure Red Copper. The bare copper is immersed in a pool of pure silver rather than being introduced into a lower grade solution. AudioQuest speaker breakouts and enclosures are not made of metal so as not to disturb the magnetic field of the signal and not to induce RF noise in the conductors.
