High-quality digital optical Toslink-Toslink cable with QED GLASSCORE technology and very low jitter
Available lengths selectable from drop-down menu.
This cable is suitable for connecting CDs or DVDs or Digital TV decoders or games consoles to the AV amplifier or receiver, and uses the new QED GLASSCORE™ technology, i.e. a conductor composed of numerous, very thin optical fibres that allow the signal to flow smoothly and without distortion
DESCRIPTION
QED TOSLINK SUPERIOR OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO INTERCONNECT CABLE MADE OF REAL GLASS
The optical reference quartz is the first of its kind, consisting of 210 separate boron-silicate glass fibres. The cable enables extraordinary sound when connecting DACs, TVs, CD players and Blu-Ray players to amplifiers or receivers because it has a much higher bandwidth and only 1/10 of the attenuation of conventional acrylic fibres. Reference Optical Quartz far exceeds the demands of high definition multi-channel digital audio with a bandwidth of over 150 MHz that is unaffected by cable bending.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
GLASSCORE TECHNOLOGY: QED's new Glasscore™ technology employs multiple bundles of boron-silicate silica glass (GOF) fibres of no more than 50um each to achieve the 1mm diameter required to comply with standard Toslink connectors. Because the fibres are so small, the different paths taken by the light beams are of similar length, virtually eliminating timing error and introducing less distortion and jitter. This has the effect of increasing the bandwidth and accuracy of data transmission.
REFRECTIVE INDEX: The quartz fibres are coated with a low refractive index coating to guide the light signal.
OVER 150MHZ WIDE BAND: This far exceeds the requirements of high definition multi-channel HD digital audio. In contrast to conventional acrylic glass optical cables, quartz glass cables can provide signals up to and including 24 and 32 bits with very low jitter. Reference optical quartz can provide a much higher bandwidth than a single acrylic glass fibre with 1/10th of the attenuation.
ULTRA LOW JITTER / ULTRA LOW LOSS: QED calculated that jitter (or distortions caused by timing differences between different light paths in conventional optical cables) could typically be as low as 145ps. In reference optical quartz, timing errors are virtually eliminated, introducing less distortion, jitter and very low losses <0.03 dB / m.

Each fibre is thinner than a human hair. It takes 210 fibres of 50um each to reach the 1mm diameter required to comply with the Toslink standard connectors.
COMPARING TECHNOLOGIES
PMMA FIBRE OPTICS A typical optical fibre consists of an acrylic glass material known as PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). This acrylic core allows light to travel along many paths of different lengths. Time differences are introduced - typically representing up to 145ps of jitter. |
OPTICAL QUARTZ REFERENCE The optical reference quartz has over 210 Glasscore™ fibres thinner than a human hair. This ensures very low jitter because the smaller numerical aperture reduces the range of acceptance angles leading to straighter signal paths. |
OVERALL PERFORMANCE
GLASSCORE TECHNOLOGY Instead of using traditional low-performance polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) plastic optical fibres (POFs) that come as a single 1mm OD fibre, the cable incorporates over 210 boron-silicate glass (GOF) optical fibres that offer better jitter performance and higher bandwidth capacity. |
ULTRA LOW JITTER Jitter is the unwanted deviation from the true periodicity of an assumed periodic signal in electronics and telecommunications, often in relation to a reference clock source. A cable showing ultra-low jitter has been measured at typically 30ps. |
