‘In 1994, after two discrete albums, the Berkeley-born Americans Green Day churned out their undisputed masterpiece entitled Dookie (shit) produced with Rob Cavallo.
The band's great intuition was to dust off the punk matrix by infusing it with pop/rock; in this way, they managed to satisfy at least a part of the nostalgic punk fans and a good portion of the public not accustomed to overly aggressive sounds. All this, combined with a songwriting that is all too simple but really well executed, explains the enormous success of this full length.
The lyrics deal with adolescent themes such as, for example, relationships with parents, neighbours and religion.
Many metalheads, especially of the last generation, have approached heavy music starting with this Green Day record (perhaps today they are a little ashamed to say so, although I have never understood what is wrong with admitting this truth).’
