"This work by Tool can be defined as progressive rock,[6] which came out after a five-year legal battle with the band's previous record company. The songs that make up the album are characterised by many changes of rhythm and dynamics, complemented by the distinctive and unmistakable voice of Maynard James Keenan.[6] The intertwining of guitar and bass is interesting, with the latter more present than in the past; the atmospheres are increasingly anguished, metallic and claustrophobic. An album with an unusual and complex content to absorb, Lateralus was nevertheless a commercial success in the United States, reaching number one on Billboard for a brief period after its release, and becoming double platinum on 5 August 2003. Just as with Salival, whose first copies had misprints, the name of the track Lateralus was spelled Lateralis on the cover. The typo was corrected in later copies. The original title of the track Reflection was Revolution and was changed at the last moment."
