Audio USB (Universal Serial Bus): For many applications, the speed of digital communication is important. Most visibly, speed is about transferring large files as quickly as possible or transporting enough data for HD video. For USB audio (and for HDMI audio), speed is crucial because the time relationships within a digital stream are fundamental to the reconstruction of the analogue waveform that brings information, music and joy to our ears. Time-based damage (jitter) to this information within the data packet makes sound small and flat instead of 3D, hard and foggy instead of smooth and clear.
In 1982, Sony gave us 'Perfect Sound Forever', along with the attitude that 'it's only digital, so all CD players sound the same'. This was disproved and quality differences between players became accepted truths. Then came the separate transport and DAC combos, which brought the opinion that "all digital S/PDIF audio cables sound the same ..." until this too was disproved. Now the frontier has shifted once again. Is digital audio really just one and zero? We don't believe it, and once you've had a chance to listen to Cinnamon USB, you won't think so ...
FEATURES
Solid 1.25% silver conductors for improved digital performance: Solid conductors eliminate strand-to-strand interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high frequency applications, such as audio and HDMI video. These signals, being high-frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. Since the surface is pure silver, the performance is very similar to that of a solid silver cable, but much closer to copper cable. This is an incredibly economical way to produce HDMI cables of the highest quality.
Hard foam insulation: Hard foam insulation (HCF) ensures a critical signal pair geometry. Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Cable and circuit board insulation materials absorb energy. Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Rigid cell foam insulation is similar to the PE foam used in our cheaper Bridges & Falls cables, and is injected with nitrogen to create air pockets. Since nitrogen (like air) does not absorb energy and therefore does not release energy from or into the conductor, distortion is reduced. In addition, the stiffness of the material allows the cable conductors to maintain a stable relationship along the entire length of the cable, producing a stable impedance character and further reducing distortion.
