The standard Ply 3.4 cable offers some interesting features; the geometry is designed to minimise inductance, which contributes to improved transient response. The designer has tried to optimise many of the parameters that are considered fundamental for good audio reproduction.
The conductors consist of 192 individually tinned (with pure tin) OFC copper threads in such a way as to minimise the skin effect by acting as a semi-Litz-type cable.
Furthermore, this tinning process (not silver plating!) helps to limit conductor jumps, thus transforming the multi-strand cable into a kind of solidcore (single conductor).
Supra claims that the advantage of pure tin over silver lies in the fact that copper and tin 'mix' together rather than creating a kind of diodic 'barrier' like that between copper and silver. Furthermore, pure tin protects OFC copper from oxidation.
Finally, the rectangular cross-section allows an easier interface with most speaker (or banana) connectors.
The technical specifications of Ply 3.4 (3.4 is the mm2 cross-sectional area) claim a resistance of 5.1 Ohms per km (kilometre!) and an inductance of 0.2 µH per metre.
