Producer and talent scout John Hammond, who first discovered Franklin, only wanted great music from her, while the label tried in vain to classify her as a melodic singer, jazz singer or R&B singer, without realising that Franklin, being all that and more, could not be locked into any pretentious artistic category. "Yeah!!!" offers the more jazzy side of Aretha Franklin, which in certain tracks like "Misty" (Erroll Garner, Johnny Burke) recalls other great performers like Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday. Another very good reason to buy 'Yeah!!!': the track 'Without the One You Love', the only Aretha Franklin original on the disc, is truly chilling.
