"'Very few people recognised the quality of the Stooges' compositions... the only person I ever knew who could notice that, among my fellow professional musicians, was Bowie. He noticed it instantly.""
Iggy Pop
The genesis of Raw Power can be traced back to September 1971, when Iggy Pop first met David Bowie. The Stooges had just broken up, and Iggy was considered by many to be an artist with depleted energy.[17] In February 1972, at the start of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, Bowie persuaded his manager Tony Defries to have him come to London to record an album, and about six months later Iggy appeared before journalists at a press conference at the Dorchester Hotel.
