Reference XLR 40 is based on the award-winning Audio 40 product range, now available in XLR format.

XLR 40 is designed primarily for low capacitance, as this has been identified by QED as an important factor leading to a high-fidelity experience. Further steps have been taken to eliminate minimal timing errors in the cable through the use of a special floating Zn/Mn ferrite jacket together with the use of QED's unique 'Tri-Conductor' technology that reduces the signal-to-ground capacitance to extremely low levels.

Floating ferrite sheath

Absorbs high-frequency signal noise components outside the audio band. Audio 40 products transmit a relatively cleaner and tighter signal pattern when its special Zn / Mn ferrite jacket is present.

Unique Tri-Conductor Technology

QED's unique Tri-Conductor technology utilises a third 99.999% silver-plated OFC conductor, which is integrally twisted along the similarly constructed signal pair to carry return currents to earth. This reduces the signal-to-ground capacitance to incredibly low levels, enabling the cable to improve on the common network hum rejection mode compared to normal 'cold-shielded' cables. This geometry is particularly effective in professional hi-fi audio applications when connecting preamplifiers and power amplifiers using balanced cables.
