"The eponymous first Rage Against The Machine album, released by Epic in 1992, is a thunderbolt in the rock scene of the period, combining homage to Jimmy Page - among others, 'Wake Up' is an obvious re-editing of Kashmir - the polemical rap of Public Enemy and the crossover lesson now in vogue in underground circles, the main exponents of which were certainly Fishbone, Living Colour and, on a more popular level, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Faith No More from San Francisco. It is a sensational album, containing some of Rage Against The Machine's greatest anthems, such as 'Bullet In The Head' (the first song ever recorded by the band), 'Know Your Enemy' (a title later stolen by lesser prophets) and above all 'Killing In The Name', probably the band's signature song, with a simple and implicitly revolutionary lyric in the true sense of the word.
