(Arista AL 9599) Alan Parsons (keyb); Eric Woolfson (keyb, voc); Andrew Powell (arr, cond); Ian Bairnson (g); Mel Collins (sax); David Paton (b, g, voc); Stuart Elliot (dr, perc), orchestra & chorus - Recorded in 1981 at Abbey Road Studios, London, by Alan Parsons. Produced by Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson. Alan Parsons began his artistic career with an apprenticeship as a sound engineer at Emi and was also responsible for several productions of Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd's album 'Dark Side Of The Moon', recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. In the prestigious London studios, Parsons returned there to record his project 'Eye in the Sky', an album whose lyrics were written by co-producer Eric Woolfson, while Parsons was responsible for creating a lush melange of synthetic and natural sounds, which he does very well. Like all the albums of the early part of Parsons' career, 'Eye In The Sky' is inspired by important themes of that historical period. True to the futureless lifestyle of the 1980s, the songs have a somewhat depressive character that serves as a counterbalance to the strongly rock rhythms, free of electronic gimmicks. Each track on 'Eye in the Sky' has its own specificity; in 'Gemini' there is an enthralling harmony in the vocal polyphony, while in 'Silence and I' it is the brass instruments and their Spanish-like rhythm that strike, just as in 'Old And Wise' one is enchanted by the velvety sounds of the string instruments. In short, a great success by the British mixing wizard. 'Eye in the Sky' was made entirely in analogue, using analogue mastertapes and mastering, while the recording is digital.
