A great little jazz band, a legendary American composer and a marvellous sound: only a year before, this explosive mixture had resulted in one of the most extraordinary recordings of the Bassface Swing Trio, with direct-to-disc-Cut technology, dedicated to George Gershwin. Could more be done? Hard to imagine, but true. Proof of this is the disc 'Tribute to Cole Porter' in which Thilo Wagner (piano), Jean-Philippe Wadle (double bass) and Florian Hermann (drums) are joined by the extraordinary singer Barbara Buerkle to perform a fine selection of Cole Porter jazz pieces. The sound is incredibly open and transparent, Thilo Wagner's piano lines are as fresh and lively as a mountain stream and Buerkle's singing is three-dimensional, strong and sensitive. A dynamic performance where humour is not lacking.
